Sail technology

Paneled

Paneled sails, cut and joined by the loft, in two builds: Paneled for cruising and Paneled for racing.

Paneled is Lion Sailing's cut-panel sail line. The loft cuts panels from woven or laminate cloth and joins them into the shape, the way most sails on the water are built. Cloth is the choice: Dacron for a cruising season, a high tenacity polyester laminate for club and inshore racing, aramid or a carbon laminate for the race inventory, with a film or taffeta surface. It covers mains, jibs and genoas, plus the one-design sails in the shop.

Pick Paneled on the quote form and the cloth choices appear. Pick Stride for the carbon thread membrane, or Mane for carbon tape laid along the load paths. The three are built differently and priced differently, and the loft will say which one suits the boat and the program.

How it's made

Panels are cut from the bolt and seamed together. Where the panels meet, and how they are shaped along the seam, is what puts the draft into the sail. The loft lays the panels out so the cloth's strongest direction follows the load.

Custom sails go through the quote form, where Paneled opens the cloth choices. Ready-built paneled mains, jibs and one-design sails sit in the sails shop. The cruising and racing programs are the rest of the inventory.
